Wellness in Balance · Harmony with Nature

Five ideas from
Wellness in Balance.

By Vijay K. Ahuja · October 2026

“For much of my adult life, my body was trying to tell me something.” That is the first line of the foreword to Wellness in Balance: Harmony with Nature. The rest of the book is about learning what it was saying.

It is a short book: 20 brief chapters in five parts, small enough to read in an evening. Here are five of the ideas at its heart.

1. Support the body rather than push it.

Much of modern wellness treats the body as something to be driven harder. The book begins somewhere else: wellness as alignment rather than effort. The body often responds better to care than to control, and balance tends to return when the pressure to perform eases.

2. Food is information, not only calories.

Food nourishes, but it also communicates. Variety, proportion, and timing all send signals, and the microbiome, the body’s inner ecosystem, is part of that conversation. The book explores it with clarity and context rather than with rules.

3. Rhythm and rest are where balance is rebuilt.

Daily life works better when it follows the body’s natural signals: when we eat, when we move, when we sleep. Recovery is not a pause from wellness. It is central to it. Light, air, sleep, and the spaces we live in all play a quiet part.

4. Learn to listen.

“The body is always communicating.”

Signals arise through sensation, energy, mood, appetite, and rhythm. As the book puts it, listening does not mean constant monitoring. It is a quiet form of attention that notices patterns rather than reacting to single moments. And when pressure decreases, the signals become clearer: hunger separates from craving, and fatigue from boredom.

One line from that chapter sums it up: learning to listen does not promise control; it offers orientation.

5. Choose small steps, and let go of perfection.

Steady, repeated actions matter more than dramatic ones. The book makes room for flexibility, realism, and grace, and for honoring professional care as part of a balanced approach. Balance is not a finish line. It is something we return to, again and again, through every season and stage of life.

When balance returns

The book closes with an afterword titled “When Balance Returns.” Its spirit is the line at the heart of all my work: when balance returns, wellness begins.
